This is part of Shaylee's email to her mission president.

Google Translation:
This sector (apart from this) is very great I love the neighborhood and the researchers are very receptive. tuvemos baptism of Nacho this weekend and he was so happy! It was prepared by the other sisters. estpy learning much about hope and faith. My roommate has an ingrown nail on her toe and it is difficult for her to walk but we are working to full and we are happy.

I live in an apartment with Hermana Anounciacou from Brazil, Hna Wright from Ogden, and Hermana Hill from Utah :D Maquehue is my sector but its Padre de las casas on the mission map.

Here is a map of Shay's mission.
The places she has served in are marked in pen.

We had a baptism Saturday, a 9 year old boy named Nacho, seriously, it’s awesome. He’s cute. I met him at the baptism.

We have 18 investigators and my faves are the 3 sons of a recent convert. They’re funny, it's a very different experience to teach them, they’re like gentlemanly gangsters. Seriously I would never have contacted them on the street, but the oldest told his dad he wants to be baptized :D They’re only here on the weekend’s because they go to a boarding school. They are great! The oldest is Jose Miguel (16), Yonatan (14), and Felipe (11).
We were teaching a lesson with a woman loca named Karin and she was all, "can we say the prayer holding hands", we were like umm sure? So we all hold hands and she starts to pray the most sincere prayer ever, seriously she was bawling. But I am me, I couldn’t get over the humorousness  of the situation and started to laugh and laugh and Hermana Hall is snickering too and grabbing my hand in a way meant to cause pain, and I’m doing the same to her and we are both dying making laughing/ choking sounds cause we were trying not too, which just made it worse. Karin is sobbing, so when she stopped praying I jumped forward and hugged her, thank you I say, that was beautiful! She hugs me back and thinks we were sobbing during the prayer too. I just hugged her cause I didn’t want her to see me laughing.
Last night we came across and old investigator of Hna Bentley's. We go into the house, and she’s telling us about how she knows the Book of Mormon is true because obviously everything is being fulfilled that it says, she’s in 2 Nephi right now. We were like sweet. She just didn’t know what it was saying, so we read with her. We have a return appointment.
This sectors cool because the ward actually functions like a ward at home. We mostly work off of referrals and yesterday in consejo de barrio (I am assuming ward council) bishop says, we always wait for the missionaries to bring their own investigators and pray that they’ll find people to teach, but the lord has a different idea, we need to bring them people to teach and pray that we'll find people for the missionaries to teach.  We’re like yaya bishop gogogogo! Awesomeness!
I’m missing Poyfair lots, but I am happy here and it’s fun :D
I looked through my clothes and could use one or two more of the ugly t-shirts, that would be great the rest I can sew and fix, and I inherited a couple skirts from Hna Pemberton so I should be fine :D the only things that really sick me out are my shoes. They’re gross!! Oh well :D
It’s been unusually nice weather so I’m happy with that. Usually this time of year its torrential downpour, nonstop, but we’ve got sunny weather :D
Hna Ricagno is my cap and lives in another house :( but I get to see her and my adorable hermanita en la misión hna galdino from brazil every Tuesday :D Hma Galdino is sooo cute! I’ll send a pic next week, seriously adorable and she just cracks up when I call her Hermanita :D ha-ha.  Ricagno came flying over when I walked into the bus terminal and gave me a great big hug, which was fantastic cause I was still pretty sore from leaving Poyfair-we were bawling at the terminal in LA. But Hna Ricagno says, I’m so EXCITED you’re here! She was dying laughing because when I first came to the mission and she picked me up, the first thing she said was I’m so EXCITING to be here with you! Ha-ha she’s funny :D  Seriously, I’m really happy here even though it’s kind of my poorest sector. Hna Hall says it is the richest area she has been in. She goes home in 1 cambio after this one yikes! I might just be her last comp.:D That’d be fun :D we get along great, and  since all her sectors were quite poor she speaks kind of hillbilly Spanish so it’s cute :D I love you all so much!
Love amazing Shaylee!

I do believe this is a new companion pic. Lol!

Transfered to Temuco

Guess what? This morning the district leader called, and I’m getting transferred to Temuco Cautin with Hna Hall, she trained Hna Lange in San Pedro. Hna Poyfair is going to be with her companion from the C.C.M. (M.T.C). We both burst into tears on the phone with the elder, it was, IS awful. I mean we love these Hermana’s they are amazing, yet Poyfair and Norton are still learning Spanish and we want to stay together. Poyfair just hugged me crying, and is like, don’t leave me. I about died!  Mixed emotions right now. I will definitely be visiting Poyfair after the mission.

I’m going to be packing lots today :)  I’m pretty sure I’m going to be living in the same  house as Hna Ricagno :D if not she’s going to be my capacitadora so esta bien :D Temuco is huge! It’s going to be nuts! I’m going to be in Maqueway or something like that?  It’s a big ward. I’m pretty sure it’s a house too, that’ll be a first. :D

It turns out I love Dr. Pepper.... a lot! ha-ha last night we went to visit a menos activa named pat-ree-C-ah, and she was so excited we came to visit.  She’s cute, and when we were getting ready to leave she says, hold on a sec, she wanted to give us something special.  She went to a big wooden chest and pulled out 2 Dr. Peppers, Hna Poyfair was so funny! She looked, her hands went into a very miss congeniality gasp and she started to cry!!!! Ha-ha she loooves Dr. Pepper! It’s pretty impossible to find here, it’s seriously like gold. It was the first time in 4 years I’ve actually wanted to drink a pop ha-ha. I seriously had no idea I even liked it.

Ha-ha when we were getting ready for skype I was super panicking I was soooo excited! Hno Abutter (ward mission leader) was laughing super hard :D ha-ha. He invited Hna Poyfair and I over to their house tonight for a FHE with treats ha-ha :D I’m excited, prob not the best use of time but.... I’ll let this one slide his kids are super cute :D and his wife cooks fantastically :D they’re my faves here in LA Sur. I love you guys with all my heart!
Love, Amazing Shaylee

We loved all 60 mins of talking to her. She is so happy and loving being on a mission.

A Gift From The Heart

Shaylee only sent voice recordings and a few pictures this week. I guess she finds it easier to record events as they happen. It does make it harder to keep her blog though, but I will attempt to write out one of the events from last week.

Shaylee and her companion, Hma Poyfair were street contacting people. Shaylee walked up to a lady and complimented her on her earrings. They lady was like " oh you like them? They are real silver, my friend makes them." They chatted for a bit, then the lady takes off her earrings and gives them to Shaylee and walks away. Shaylee I'm sure stood there stunned for a moment and then ran up to her and said," You don't have to give me your earrings." The lady said, "Keep them, they are a gift from my heart." What an amazing lady! Shaylee felt so bad, and her comp jokes with her about it all the time. She says anytime anyone compliments her on her earrings she is going to take them off and give the earrings to them. We can learn something from all the people we meet. After the lady left, all Shaylee could think was, "I didn't even give her a pass along card!"

                                                                        The earrings

Shaylee received a pkg from Sister Lorretta Reeder. I love all the support that is shown from home to our missionaries!

Shaylee and Hermana Poyfair get along so well and love working together.
She said that they had an incident in the house where they had to have the Elders come over and pronounce a priesthood blessing on the house. Shaylee said, the other Hermana's that live in their apartment don't keep the mission rules like they should. Shaylee says that missionaries are on a different level and when they do not keep the rules are prone to serious consequences. She never gave details, but she said they were pretty shook up.

New mission president has finally been called but will not be there to take over until July. I'm thinking they have a lot of training from now till then. Thanks Kristy for finding this article and picture.

Hard Week.

It was a hard week, just thinking about dad leaving and having our family spread out even more just about did me in, I’ve been praying a lot.  I also got sick, and we had a lame week. The nurse told me I had to stay in until my fever went away. Then we kind of a had a scare with something in our apartment. The elders came and dedicated it and we slept in the caps house for a night and everything’s all good again. I promise :D I’m super sensitive to that stuff here more than ever :D ha-ha you have no idea how many people let us in cause they think were testigos (google translate says it means witnesses. I am not sure what kind of trouble, but I will hopefully get the full scoop next week when I ask her about it) ha-ha, Margaret for example :D speaking of Margaret I don’t know if I ever sent a pic of the bracelet she gave me when I left. It's silver and lápiz azuelí :D super expensive here. She told me to wear it and never forget her, because she’s not going to forget me. I Love her. The other pic is what my companion did while I was sleeping ha-ha

Tomorrow we have an appointment to visit a man named Patricio his wife is a member but he’s not, free baptism casi ha-ha!

Hma Poyfair made me a new agenda while I was sick. I love it!

We had a kinder surprise FHE Monday night

I found Cheetos in the store today!!!! They don’t taste the same but they are crunchy!

Hma Poyfair filled Shay's camera with selfies while she was sick, poor bored girl.

Chilean Beso

I did get the world’s most wonderful, beautiful boots :D My casemate’s about died of jealousy, they call me quaka now, means rich girl ha-ha. It rained all week long and the boots arrived the day before the rain started :D I looove them and they fit perfect :D

HaHa! Tell Taya that I most definitely will demonstrate the Chilean beso (kissing on the cheek when you meet someone) when I get home. I used to come home from church and wash my face with soap while Hna Ricagno laughed at me.

It was a good, but wet week :D  We are hoping to find new investigators this week :D the lady we found when I was sick was traveling this past week, but gets back today.  We are going to visit her again tomorrow :D

We bought matching marshmallow winter coats :D

A member gave us membrillos to snack on, we brought them home and made them into friends :D Hna Poyfair opened hers and it had a HUMUNGOUS WORM INSIDE with ant friends and ant eggs!!

The miracle! A woman I taught almost all of the lessons to without Hna Mendoza, cause she was sick, was baptized. I just feel so blessed that Titi was baptized, doesn’t she look radiant? She’s Benjamin’s mom’s friend :D I just love her! I’m so happy for her!

Dreadful Rain!

It rained all week and it was dreadful!!!! I got a cold, and received a blessing and then it was all ok. I went to work and it rained some more!!!! ha-ha, but in the blessing I was told that I was going to have EVEN MORE desire to serve, and work here, and EVEN MORE faith, with lots of emphasis on the "even more", during the blessing, and that I would... well it was Spanish, but translates as, go forth PREACHING god’s Word, and that I would walk showing signs to the people in my sectors.  I was like, ooohhh that’s cool!

I’m definitely making myself understood :D The Chilean and Ecuadorian in my apartment are always correcting me, so I hope I’m improving :D
We found 6 new investigators this week :D  On the day I was really sick and got a blessing in the morning, the blessing told me to go out and work, so I did, and we found Verónica.  Yesterday we went to visit a menos activo named Javier Sanchez, we got there and his whole family was there! There was also 5 new people that live in the house with them. I was drawing a  blank on what to say, so I played the tie game with them, and we read 3rd Nephi 19: 18-19 or maybe it’s chap 20? about prayer, seriously you have no idea how often that game has saved my life!  We have an appointment to teach his 2 sisters, mom, grandpappy, cousin, and nieces it was crazy!!!!!!!!!

 I love you dad!

The other day we knocked on a door, this guy opens it and was like, ok you can teach me right here, you have 2 minutes cause I’m really busy but interested, I was like ok, and taught the restoration in under a minute.  We're going to go back sometime this week, hopefully he has more time ha-ha!
Yeah spunky is the perfect Word for My comp, she’s a super hard worker and I love her to death, we have lots of fun, its great, and super easy for us to get along :D
We had to drop the man in the tent, he won’t stop drinking, and it’s dangerous to go teach a drunk who lives in a tent without a member and even with a member, so we, well I,  told him when he is sober to call us and we'll come teach him. :(

This is a pic Hna Palmer (abuela) left for me before she went home, along with a giant nesquik cup :D it’s a family tradition, nesquik fixes everything they say :) (Mission genealogy, she has a whole new family out there! They even have traditions. Lol!)

We had an actividad de zona hoy and we got t-shirts, and they are uggglyy! But fun :) They say las for las Angeles Sur, but they added lasabor so it says the flavor. Never leave the elders in charge of anything is what I have learned ha-ha.
We played ninja, soccer, mafia, and had a BBQ :D it was fun!
